Your child is a star, as multifaceted and singular as a snowflake.
You want to help him grow into the best person he can be, to be happy, to be proud of his work and proud of himself. And you’ll do whatever it takes to make that happen, but how?
He’s struggling to finish assignments, his homework is a mess when he gets it done, and let’s not talk about the backpack and notebook… Papers everywhere except where they’re supposed to be.
Attitude is becoming a problem. Kids with ADHD and ADD get in trouble. You don’t want things to keep getting worse. You know executive functioning develops with maturity, but you want him to get on the right track now, to be happy and proud of his work.
Do you know what’s going on inside your child’s brain? Do you know what it feels like to be him?
Do you know what’s underneath or behind those challenging behaviors? Do you know how to help?
Kids aren’t born with personalized instruction manuals. Each one is different.
The “inside out” approach
I have ways to measure the unique signature of brainwave (EEG) patterns that reflect what’s happening inside his head.
I can guide you through the use of specific research-based wearable tools that help shift brainwave frequencies and amplitudes.
These can make enormous differences in performance, behavior, and emotional equilibrium within just a few sessions.
When I know what’s happening inside the brain, I can devise a program that will help.
What is happening?
Generally, I look for brain patterns that show too much fast-wave or too much slow-wave activity. Although that’s not all, that’s important, and it’s a good place to start.
Remember the kids who don’t do well on stimulant medications? There’s an explanation for that. Some of them may already have over-aroused or “fast running” brains. They may need calmer, less active brainwaves.
Would you pour gas on a fire in your kitchen? Hopefully not.
That’s what stimulants can be for an unstable brain.
Then, what?
Structure and routines can be helpful too in creating and reinforcing behaviors that help your child’s brain mature, and I have many tools and approaches to share with you.
When you let me know more about your circumstances and your child, I can narrow down what to try first and where to go from there.
Although admittedly, I love my gadgets, I realize it’s not just about technology. It’s about understanding, “getting” your child – and finding the approach that will work best in your situation.
Everyone’s brain is different.
Is your child struggling with staying “on task,” remembering what to do, following through with what you or his teachers have asked? Have the labels ADD or ADHD or Executive Functioning Deficit been suggested for him?
Your child is maturing and learning with each new experience, but some kids’ brains mature more slowly than others. Research shows (and insurance companies know this) that executive functioning continues to develop until around age 25, give or take a few years.
Can you wait that long?
My mission? To help kids like yours succeed in school and life.
No more “shame and blame.”
We need to find solutions, to support and celebrate your child’s successes because that’s what will truly help him mature into a happy, well-adjusted adult.
If he’s struggling because of these sorts of problems, you may see attitudes and behaviors that exacerbate the situation. You don’t have time for that.
You want to level the playing field and give your child a jump start on maturity.
Your child deserves a “brain boost” and that’s why he needs a Brain Coach.
About Me
Why me?
I’ve been a licensed speech-language pathologist for over 20 years and a neurofeedback specialist for over 10 years. I’m currently an executive board member with the Foundation for Neurofeedback and Neuromodulation (FNNR), an organization that actively seeks to promote education and the peer-reviewed research into the field.
My history: I’ve always been fascinated by the brain. Looking back, I see a common thread in all my various interests and studies. I first studied brain and behavior while earning my bachelors in Psychology.
Then, I studied computer programming – learning about networks and system design. I added the study of cognition and communication while earning my master’s degree in what I like to describe as “Communication Science,” typically labeled Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) or Speech and Hearing Sciences.
After working in a variety of settings – research, schools, private practice, therapeutic riding centers – I discovered Brainwave (EEG based) Biofeedback – aka Neurofeedback.
I was hooked.
That was back in 2008. I experienced first-hand what this tool could do for my clients and me. After that, I couldn’t go back to traditional speech-language therapy without at least trying to incorporate neurofeedback into my therapy sessions.
I worked in a great clinic in SC, where we used neurofeedback as one of our treatment tools. I connected with leaders in the neurofeedback and research community. I was elected to the board of the Foundation for Neurofeedback Neuromodulation and Research (FNNR) in 2018, and I continue to support advancements and research in this field through this important organization.
I mentioned I am a “gadget freak,” didn’t I?
Over the past 50 years, the field of neurofeedback has grown and matured, and advances in technology continue to drive the field – even though the core principles discovered at the outset are still valid and useful.
What has excited me all along is the possibility of bringing this technology out of the clinic and into the home or schools and making it accessible to more people. I’ve purchased and tried almost every “wearable” brain training and/or modulation device on the market.
My research and personal experience have finally led me to what I consider a “winning combination”: a system that gives me EEG based real-time brainwave activity, attention and stress measures, and mechanisms for modulating that activity toward more efficient activity patterns.
Together, they’re easy to use, and the entire family can share the components.
See your “special star” shine even more brightly than you’d imagined!
When we add these neurofeedback-based tools to the system of strategies, progress tracking, support, and coaching that I provide, there’s no limit to what we can do.
