Another bad report card.
You walk into his room. Clothes, books, sports equipment, games, and dirty dishes cover everything.
Knowing what’s coming, he looks up from his PlayStation console with a defensive, almost hostile, expression.
He’s waiting for you to blast him again about not doing his homework, about his grades, about his room.
You shake your head, take a deep breath,
and just look at him.
You know he’s smart enough to do better. He’s a good kid.
Inside he really wants to please you but he never finishes ANYTHING. Maybe there’s a learning disability, maybe dyslexia, attention issues, sensory issues, or some “flavor” of autism. Your child may be not “neurotypical”.
Where to start? What to say? What to do? Nothing has worked.
You’ve tried everything! (Well, almost.)
When their teachers started hinting that they might do better on “medication” for their attention and behavior issues, you tried a round of Adderall. But the side effects weren’t worth it. They stopped eating and had trouble sleeping. Their mood plummeted. He was not himself. She was not herself. They were not… themselves (?). Well you get the picture.
The doctor said she could try different medications, but you’ve read up on side effects and heard that sometimes there are long-term effects that… well, to put it plainly, scare the heck out of you.
There must be a way to help her… to help her succeed, to feel good about herself. You don’t want to see her in “Special Education” with an IEP yet still struggling just to get by do you?
This is where I come in. You’re not
alone in this.
I’ve been in the trenches with parents and kids like yours. Heck, I’ve even been one of them.
I know what it’s like to be labeled an “underachiever.” To feel helpless and not good enough – like it’s “just my lot in life” to always be “in trouble,” for not living up to whatever “they” expect.
That’s no way to go through life.
But, there is a way through this maze… and I can help you find it.
I’ve been there. I’ve helped countless kids do better, gain confidence, raise their test scores, get those “A+” grades.
Working together, using a combination of traditional therapy and neurofeedback brain-based training, we will help your child’s brain develop and use new pathways. I can also guide you through the use of specific research-based wearable tools for home use that provide feedback and help shift your child’s brainwave frequencies and amplitudes.
These can make enormous enormous differences in performance, behavior, and emotional equilibrium within just a few sessions. You will see the child you know is in there shining through with hope and confidence. Homelife will be more stable and peaceful. That messy notebook/backpack/room will stay organized for longer and longer.
“Whaaat?” your inner voice may say now. “How on earth do I do that?”
Well, I have several “tricks” up my sleeve.
Hi, I’m Valerie.
There are A LOT of organizational strategies to help students from the outside-in. Unfortunately, these well-meaning approaches tend to compensate – through external structures and adult support – more than they fix the core issues. Compensatory strategies are fine in the short term, but they often leave the student dependent on outside help.
That’s why I call what I do: “Brain Boosting”. I incorporate more of an “inside-out” approach in order to address core issues directly at their source.
Using my experience with neurofeedback and neuromodulation, I identify the core nervous system issues that are standing in the way of your child’s success. This approach addresses specific brain frequencies and locations that are over- or under-activated. You want your child to become independent and competent, but first, they need to have a brain that’s ready and able to learn.
By finding the patterns (sleep, scheduling, nutrition, exercise, etc.) that are part of your child’s experience, we can develop a plan to align the factors that are out of balance. Targeted exercises improve focus, relaxation, auditory and/or visual processing speeds. As we address the root causes through this “inside-out” approach, everything gets easier.
You’ll see a measurable difference pretty quickly. And it can all work within your busy life!
Call me now to arrange a short
consultation to see if we are a fit.
We can work together for a few sessions or over a longer period of time. It all depends on what you need, what your child needs, and what fits your life. I will provide resources that you can utilize on your own or help you use tools that are right for you and your child.
As a coach, a consultant, and a collaborator, I am here for you – whatever you need.
My greatest joy will be seeing both your life and your child’s life improve…
and then keep getting better!
